10 Breathtaking Views

Marvel at the incredible sights that greet you at every turn; Alaska is the place for majestic vistas. We've lined up our favorites for you to watch for on your next Alaskan adventure. Have your camera ready!

Mendenhall Glacier

This magnificent river of ice with glacial lake is one of Alaska's most accessible glaciers, just 12 miles (19km) from downtown Juneau. There's an informative visitor center and many hiking trails in the surrounding forest and mountains, beside salmon streams and waterfalls. Watch for birds and bears!

Lynn Canal

Connecting Skagway and Haines, this narrow channel with steep sides is spectacular to sail down. When you emerge at the town of Haines, you are surrounded 360 degrees by high mountains, a totally breathtaking experience! One of the top sights on your Alaska cruise.

Denali (Mt. McKinley)

The tallest mountain in North America at 20,310 ft. (6,190 meters) is something very special to see. Its imposing glaciated peaks can be seen on clear days from many points in Denali National Park and Preserve. Denali provides a superb backdrop to the wilderness lodges in the area.

Flightseeing

Across Alaska, taking off in a small plane or helicopter provides you with the best views possible. See mountain chains and ice flows all the way to the horizon. Land on a glacier for a walk or visit to a dog sled camp. Fly past numerous glaciers en route to a fresh salmon bake meal. It's all possible in the Great Land.

Hubbard Glacier

Cruise ships sail peacefully into Disenchantment Bay towards the longest tidewater glacier in Alaska. Sitting majestically in the expansive wilderness, Hubbard is six miles wide (9.65 km) and 400 ft. (122 meters) above the water line, calving ice bergs up to four stories tall. An incredible and memorable sight!

Mount Roberts

Take the tramway near your cruise ship for spectacular views of Juneau and the Gastineau Channel. The steep 1,800-ft. (548-meter) journey takes you above the rainforest to Mountain House with its restaurant, gift shop, Chilkat Theater (short films and live performances), nature center and hiking trails.

Glacier Bay

Remarkable glacier views are part of visiting this collection of fjords and inlets, home to 16 active tidewater glaciers, all five species of Pacific Salmon and 25 percent of the total number of bird species in all North America! Take a cruise ship or small expedition ship on the waters of the National Park and Preserve.

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve

Four major mountain ranges meet in this expansive park, giving you many overwhelming views of snow-covered mountain peaks, icefields, glaciers and the Wrangell volcanic field. This is the largest National Park in the US, unique and well worth visiting.

Tracy Arm Fjord

Every inch of the way reveals the beauty and power of nature as you sail over 30 miles (48 km) along this quintessential fjord; narrow, deep and sheer-walled. Meandering through the Terror Wilderness, you'll see hanging valleys, waterfalls and ice bergs as you approach Sawyer Glacier at the head of the fjord.
